Global Mission

The ELCA walks with more than 80 companion churches in other countries to participate in God’s mission. Through these relationships, ELCA members see how people’s lives are touched by the gospel, how their lives are transformed and renewed, and how their communities live in hope.

In response, we share our gifts and talents to address the root causes of poverty and hunger and meeting human needs, fight malaria and HIV and AIDS, build communities that coexist in peace, and prepare women and men to preach the good news throughout the world.

Our synod has active partnerships with the Lutheran Church of Peru and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Central African Republic.

Walking and working together, we seek to accompany our companions. Accompaniment is a walking together in a solidarity that practices interdependence and mutuality. We live this out in its relationships with global companions, striving to share God’s love and participate in God’s mission together:

  • Mutually
  • Inclusively
  • Vulnerably
  • Empowering
  • Sustainably

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith.”
-Colossians 2:6–7a

In response to our call to care for our neighbor and in celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we will raise a total of $500,000 for ELCA World Hunger. Our community will hold you in prayer as you engage your congregational members to join this effort by October 2017.

How can we respond?

  • Educate yourself and your congregation about both local and global hunger issues
