In 2017, Bishop Mike Rinehart will be leading a group (maximum 24 people) to Germany in honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation on October 29-November 7.

Cost

Total cost is $2,400.

$500 refundable (less credit card fee if paid online) deposit is due upon registration
$1,000 non-refundable deposit is due by April 10, 2017
Balance is due in full by September 15, 2017

Costs includes hotel, all meals except lunches and perhaps a dinner or two if we divide up. Plan on some expenses for gratuities. Cost does not include airfare, but does include ground transportation when traveling with the group.

Montag, October 30, 2017 – Arrive Frankfurt and transfer to Leipzig

Dienstag, October 31, 2017 – The 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther’s Posting of the 95 Theses – Reformation Day Worship at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. J.S. Bach served as music director of the city of Leipzig. He is buried at St. Thomas. We will also visit St. Nicolas Church, where the prayers were said leading up to the fall of the communist regime.

Donnerstag, November 2, 2017 – Eisleben

Freitag, November 3, 2017 – Dresden

Samstag, November 4, 2017 – Wittenberg

Sonntag, November 5, 2017 – Erfurt

Montag, November 6, 2017 – Erfurt

During these days above, we will visit the Augustinerkloster in Erfurt, where Luther lived as an Augustinian monk from 1505 to 1511. There we will also see the Merchants Bridge and Cathedral.

In Eisenach we will visit the Wartburg Castle, Back Museum, Cotta House, and St. George Church. If we have time, we will visit the memorial to the Holocaust at Buchenwald. In Wittenberg we will see the Luther Museum and Melanchthon Museum, City Church, and Castle Church. Wittenberg was the location of the new university where Luther taught. He posted the 95 Theses on the door of the chapel.

In Eisleben is the house where Luther was born and the other house where he died. We will visit St. Peter’s Church where Luther was baptized. St. Peter’s Church is now a baptismal center. In Dresden, we will see the Royal Residence and Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) with views of the Elbe River.
