What is the mission of our synod, together, over the next six years, in identifying and training future lay and ordained leaders in our church?

Park Place Lutheran Church, Houston, TX
Park Place Lutheran Church, Houston, TX MAKE THE ROLE OF PASTOR SPECIAL AGAIN Where are the heroes? Where are the people that the young people can look to as an example and inspiration? Olga had encouragement from pastors and leaders. Congregations need to hold up a pastor with rank and status. They supported Olga over her lifetime. Oskar Salge, a pastor from the valley, refused to marry two divorced people, but, he invited a pastor over to preach that day and that pastor married them. Pastor Salge did not let his personal values impede the sacrament of marriage. It’s how we speak publicly of our pastor. Children listen.
PREPARE SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS AND SHOW TO CHILDREN IN SUNDAY SCHOOL Ask Augsburg Fortress or Luther Productions to create a promotional video (but not pushy) and show it to Sunday School kids and show another type of video to high school kids.
ASSIGN MENTORS TO UNDER GRAD STUDENTS Ask local pastors to volunteer their time and meet with an undergrad student. It takes leadership to support these kids.
HAVE CONGREGATION MEMBERS VOLUNTEER TO IDENTIFY PEOPLE WHO CAN BE FUTURE LEADERS Request volunteers from congregation to look around and identify kids who may talents for ministry.
LIFT UP THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY “WORK” AS A WORSHIP TEAM MEMBER Although some young people serve as acolytes or readers as part of their confirmation schedule, it is still important to lift up these people and show appreciation. There are kids who consistently get out of serving and their parents allow it. Kids who show up need to know they are appreciated. When they realize their actions are appreciated, they may begin to associate a good memory with their serving. This may encourage the young one to keep an open mind when they view the special presentations.
