“God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday, the ELCA’s dedicated day of service, will take place Sunday, Sept. 8, just over one month from now. Thank you in advance for your participation.

New this year is the hymn “God’s Work, Our Hands,” written by Wayne Wold. Selected as the winning entry in the ELCA’s “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday hymn contest, “God’s Work, Our Hands” references the official tagline of the ELCA and expresses how the people of this church live in service for the life of the world. The hymnincludes music to a familiar tune as well as music to an original composition, and is available as a year-round worship resource.

To help you plan for “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday, we invite you to visit ELCA.org/dayofservice for resources, including:

  • The 2019 toolkit, with a section on advocacy-related activities
  • A worship resource
  • Posters and postcards
  • Door hanger invites
  • Bulletin inserts
  • T-shirts available through Old Lutheran. The deadline for ordering T-shirts is Aug. 13.

Don’t forget to share your stories and photos with us! Shortly after Sept. 8, please send them to [email protected] so that together we can celebrate what God is doing through the congregations and ministries of the ELCA. If it’s not possible for your congregation to participate on Sept. 8, please consider another date for your dedicated day of service.

“Bless, God, our hands as we work in your name, sharing the good news of your Gospel,” reads the text for the new hymn. This is work congregations do every day — sharing the love of Christ with all God’s people. We look forward to working with you again this year and hearing your stories!
