Calling all Alumni!

Dec 22, 2022

By Chris Markert, Bishop’s Associate for Mission

One of the most significant ministries we invest in together as the Synod is campus ministry. Campus ministry has the ability to provide life-changing encounters with Jesus on college campuses, and especially for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Many pastors, deacons, youth ministers and other church leaders began their discernment towards professional ministry because of their experiences with campus ministry.

The Gulf Coast Synod currently has three active campus ministries, and two being ready to be started or restarted:

  • Treehouse Ministry (Texas A&M and Blinn Colleges). The Rev. Jerry Wirtley is Campus Pastor.
  • HouMin (University of Houston and Texas Southern University). The Rev. Morgan Gates is Campus Pastor.
  • Rice University (through Christ the King- Houston). The Rev. Sergio Rodriguez is the pastor from Christ the King who ministers at Rice.
  • LSU – Baton Rouge (through St. Paul – Baton Rouge, LA, awaiting new leadership)
  • New Orleans Campus Ministry (still being developed)

We are calling on all alumni from these schools to register here so these campus ministries can update you on goings-on you might be interested in. Also, for those who were active in campus ministry in another synod but would also like to stay abreast of campus ministry activities, you are also invited to complete this form.
