By Lisa Brenskelle

The mission of Lutherans Restoring Creation is to promote incorporation of care for creation into the full life and mission of the church, working in five areas: worship, education, discipleship, building & grounds, and public ministry/advocacy. For some timely information in these areas, see below:
Worship
With Earth Day (4/22) & the Major Rogation (4/25) coming up, check out these resources: Care of Creation Liturgical Resources, Worship Resources for Earth Day & beyond and Christian Environmental resources. A new creation-focused prayer is posted each week. Creation-focused commentaries on the lectionary are available from a Lutheran source.
Education
Join Connecting Land and Connecting People: Preserving the Coastal Prairie online on April 27. The Environmental Impact of “Stuff” makes a great youth or adult discussion starter. Power That Heals: Christ, Climate Leadership, and the Strength of Feminine Wisdom could be used for an adult class. Consider these books, podcasts, films & more for a group study or discussion on climate change. Or, considering holding a Climate Fresk event.
Discipleship
Share these “Bulletin blurb” eco-tips (+ verses & quotes) with your congregation. Participate in a Guided Prayer Walk in the Park in Houston on April 19. Read Neighbors Come Together to Tackle Air Pollution and Climate Action in Detroit and consider how you might live your faith in your community. Join the Lutherans Restoring Creation-Gulf Coast Team for the Earth Month Ecochallenge, running online throughout the month. Add Praying in Nature to your spiritual practices.
Building & Grounds
Lose some of your unused, high maintenance lawn in favor of a pocket prairie! Get started in the Pocket Prairie & Great Grow Out Workshop in Deer Park on May 2. Get inspired for what you can do to combat climate change by these climate solutions videos from around the globe. Serve coffees from Lutheran World Relief at your coffee hour. Check out St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, American Climate Leadership Awards 2025 Finalist. Maybe your congregation can be a finalist in future! Get a rain barrel or rain barrel & compost bin in ongoing discounted sales.
Public Ministry/Advocacy
The weekly-updated Opportunities to Care for, Learn About, and Enjoy Nature features volunteer events in the greater Houston area. Join the Lutherans Restoring Creation Team for Walk for the Wild at the Houston Zoo on April 6. Get a volunteer group together for the Interfaith Environmental Stewardship Event in Houston on April 27. Help Christ the King in Houston expand their Native Plant Pollinator Garden on April 5. A new eco-justice advocacy opportunity is posted on the synod team’s website each week.
