Rooted in Belonging, Renewed for the Future

Apr 11, 2026

In last month’s TLGCS Connections, we reflected on how campus ministry across the Gulf Coast Synod supports students during formative seasons of faith, transition, and discernment. This month’s reflection from Treehouse continues that story, offering a glimpse of how belonging, baptismal identity, and space for honest questions shape student life in community. Together, these ministries reflect our shared commitment to walking alongside young adults across diverse campus contexts. What a year it has been at Treehouse Ministries, one marked by both transition and tradition. Even in the midst of change, we continue to see a community deeply rooted in care, curiosity, and connection.

It has been just over a month since our Rooted and Renewed Gala, and I am still filled with gratitude. The outpouring of support for this ministry was incredible, and the dedication of our board leaders continues to inspire and sustain this work.

Even more moving are the students we encounter through Treehouse. Their voices and testimonies remind us why this ministry matters. A common thread runs through what they share—both at the Gala and in our regular gatherings: the importance of having a space where they are free to ask questions and feel they truly belong.

One student shared:

“When I mentioned struggles or asked hard questions, I was taken in and treated like family, given time to grow and process, and met with honesty when answers weren’t certain. I was taken aback by this. I had been taught that doubt and empathy had no place in the Lord’s home. And yet, I saw both, empathy and space for doubt—drawing people closer to God and to one another.”

Another shared:

“Treehouse allowed me to open up in ways that were previously discouraged. When we talked about scripture, our interpretations were welcomed. My questions were welcomed. Slowly, I was able to let go of the guilt I carried. I was accepted as my full, authentic self.”

At the heart of this belonging is a deeper truth we hold onto as people of faith: in baptism, we are named and claimed as God’s beloved. Before anything else, before expectations, doubts, or questions—we belong to Christ and to one another.

In these stories, we catch a glimpse of what baptismal life looks like in community: a place where questions are welcomed, where grace is practiced, and where each person is reminded again and again that they are already God’s beloved.

As Treehouse looks ahead, we are entering a season of transition. Members of our current board are stepping into new chapters, and we are prayerfully seeking new leaders to help guide and support this ministry into the future.

If you feel called to help create spaces of belonging and to walk alongside young people in their journeys of life and faith, reminding them of who they are and whose they are, we would love to connect with you. Please email us!

Thank you for being part of the Treehouse story, rooted in the promises of baptism and continually being renewed in Christ.
