Sacred Shift

Welcome to the 32nd Assembly of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod!

Our theme, Sacred Shift, will explore the many shifts taking place in our culture, in the world, and in the church.

The Synod Assembly is a gathering of our congregations’ pastors, deacons, and lay leaders for prayer, worship, learning, mutual upbuilding, elections, and business. This year, we are experimenting with a two-day assembly and also with meeting in a congregation. Many thanks to the staff and leaders of Kinsmen Lutheran Church for being willing to jump into this opportunity. This year we have a bishop election.

All pastors and deacons are members of the assembly. According to our constitution, congregations with fewer than 175 members must send a minimum of one lay voting member. Congregations of 175 or more members must send a minimum of two.

Synod bylaws establish maximums as well, based on a congregation’s baptized membership:

  • 1-349: maximum of 2 voting members
  • 350-700: maximum of 3 voting members
  • 701-1400: maximum of 4 voting members
  • 1401-2000: maximum of 5 voting members
  • 2001+: maximum of 6 voting members

The yellow links to the right will help you with registration, the agenda, hotel options, and more. We look forward to gathering together May 17-18!

Isaiah 43:18-21

18 Do not remember the former things,
or consider the things of old.

19 I am about to do a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.

20 The wild animals will honor me,
the jackals and the ostriches;
for I give water in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my chosen people,

21 the people whom I formed for myself
so that they might declare my praise.
