Synod Assembly – 2017

May 18 – 20, 2017
Hilton Houston North in Houston

We know that God tells us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, he takes this commandment even further by saying, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

The 2017 Synod Assembly addressed the question, “Who is my neighbor?” Members from within different communities and identities shared their stories and experiences with us. We engaged in thoughtful conversations and reflections. We heard stories of truth and left better equipped with resources to help us address some of these issues within our own contexts.

We were also incredibly fortunate to have Glocal take a leading role at this assembly. The mission of the ELCA Glocal Musicians and Educators is to equip for God’s work in global and local realities, as well as their “glocal” intersections. They led in mission conversations around the realities of our communities and this world God loves.
